First 1200 Miles (July 7-19)

Irene's trip across I-80 was mostly hot! Plan had been to boondock in Elko, NV the first night, but temps over 100 degrees made finding a RV park with electrical much more appealing. Fortunately there was one spot remaining at Double Dice RV Park!  The next day was equally hot as the trip continued into Salt Lake City then turned south (I-15), but a reservation at the KOA in Sp;ringville, UT and a dip in the pool to do some water aerobics made it tolerable.  Day 3 went along US 6 to I-70 E and ended in Glenwood Springs, CO for the night.  Only 133 miles on Day 4 to reach Buena Vista, then 4 days in the same spot.  While coming over Tennessee Pass is pretty, next time she thinks she would opt to go to Copper Mtn and over to Leadville.  A full tank of gas made the climb slow and hard.

Irene's reunion was fun and Mary Sue's brother, Rick completed his bike ride, Tour of the CA Alps aka Death Ride (15,000 ft of climbing and over 100 miles all in one day. Wow!)  Irene drove Teal Baby and Buttercup to Morrison CO on July 14 and parked in the driveway of longtime friends.  The view off their back yard is of Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

This geologically formed, open-air amphitheatre which sits at 6450 feet, with panoramic view of Denver has attracted musical performers since the early 1900's.  It officially opened June 1941, with a seating capacity of 9525.  

There are two monoliths which anchor each side of the amphitheatre and here is one of them.  The red rock and blue skies are great. 

There is an amazing list of performers over the years.  The Easter Sunrise Service is said to be special, although it can be quite nippy!
